Facebook Sends Message To iPhone & Android
Facebook has decided to roll out its 'Messenger Only' plans for iPhone and Android users, by removing the messaging function in Facebook app and force users into downloading 'Messenger' for mobile chat.
Facebook first rolled out its plans to migrate users to 'Messenger Only' in Europe. The move seems to have bared positive results, with people on Messenger said to respond 20% faster than on Facebook's mobile app.
The standalone app 'Messenger' also allows users to use different functions when chatting with friends and peers, like taking a selfie whilst chatting.
The move to 'Messenger Only' will not, however, affect users outside the iPhone and Android phone spectrum, which means people using iPads, tablets and Windows Phone, among others, will still be able to use the messaging function in Facebook app for the time being.
Messenger currently has 200 million users worldwide, who exchange 12 billion messages a day.
No set date has been mooted for the migration, but Facebook will be notifying users in due course 'over the next few days' that a migration to Messenger will affect given users.
